Graham Kirby-Smith

Chairman [Officer]

I first heard about the Woking Amateur Operatic Society (WAOS) around 2009/2010, but I wasn’t sure it was for me as I wasn’t into opera or operetta – my interest was, and still is, focused on more contemporary musical theatre. So when I heard they were doing ‘Children of Eden‘ in May 2013, I decided to give it a go.

I enjoyed that, but wasn’t particularly interested in the next couple of shows, and it took a little persuasion from Martine Young, Director of ‘Wuthering Heights‘ in May 2015, to bring me back!  Since then, I have performed in almost every production, co-directed 2 of our summer fundraisers, was persuaded to join the committee in 2017, and a year later, I became the Chairman!

I’m also very pleased that we are now known as WAOS Musical Theatre (WAOS MT), to better reflect the types of performances that we now do.
